Whitegate United v Chester Nomads

After falling to a losagainst Halton Borough Town last weekend iwas time to put the game behind us as we

welcomed Chester Nomads to Whitegate.

The sun was shining, it was matchday and the pubs were back open could it get any better?... Yes! A win for the team in black and white.

The first half was far from a classic. 45 minutes of missed placed passes and being dragged down to the same level as our opponents. With that being said Whitegate almost took the lead in the opening minute as Oli Emmerson forced Chester’s keeper into a good save at his near post.

That was as good as it got. A half dominated by the hosts but very little opportunities created. A solid defensive partnership between Martyn Boaler and Robbie Allen controlled the back line stopping any potential threat from the away side.

A half time team talk from manager Gary Yeo rallied the home side into a better second half performance. It took until the hour mark for a big chance and it fell to Kev Beresford, the forward was put through on goal but the keeper was on hand to deny the striker.

Whitegate broke the deadlock after a piece of individual brilliance from Jack Lanceley. The midfielder beat two players with ease before slotting the ball across the keeper into the side netting.

After three substitutions which saw Ben Duffy, Graham Bridges and Adam Harvey come on. One quickly became two.

Lewis Williams was brought down outside the area and up-stepped Duffy who bent the ball over the wall and into the bottom corner to give the goalkeeper no chance! There were shouts of it being a cross from Boulter-Ashcroft in goal but unfortunately we have accepted he meant this one.

As the game approached the final ten minutes chances came and went for Whitegate to extend their lead. It took until the last minute for the home side to grab the third. Williams found Graham Bridges with a superb through ball and the winger beat the keeper to score the third.

A disappointing first half performance was vastly improved upon in the second with the hosts showing a gulf in quality between the two sides. A first clean sheet of the season for Whitegate in a dominant 3-0 win.

A special shout-out from our manager goes to Adam Harvey after a excellent performance coming off the bench.

As this match report is posted on our website on the day after the game we would like to wish Johnathan Bownes (Bownder) a Happy Birthday!

Onto Port Sunlight away next weekend.
