Chester nomads v whitegate united
The final game of the season saw Whitegate on the road again as we travel to
Chester Nomads, with the hope of finishing the season on a high with a win.
Just like the previous week Whitegate dominated the opening periods with some excellent football being played. But the opening goal didn’t come from great play, it was down to hard work and not giving up. Kev Beresford chased what looked to be a lost clause, but his endeavours were rewarded with the opening goal of the game. A lofted effort over the keeper saw the striker open the scoring.
One quickly became two as a cross from Danny Vickers fell to Jack Johnson, he picked out Sam Eves on the edge of the box. The on rushing midfielder kept his composure to find the bottom corner.
The final game of the season saw captain Martyn Boaler with an impressive cameo role in midfield, leaving the questions..have we played him in the wrong position all along?
As always Jonathan Bownes was his ever brilliant self at left back. We hope he enjoys his night out in Chester. Our very own peaky blinder!
Back to the action! The visitors had chances to extend their lead with Johnson, Eves and Vickers going close but the score remained 2-0.
As they say 2-0 is the most dangerous score in football and Chester looked to get themselves back in the game. The hosts had chances to reduce the deficit but two saves from Boulter-Ashcroft kept Nomads out- sending the teams in at the half with Whitegate 2-0 up.
The half time break didn’t effect the flow of the game with the side in black and white extending their lead. The ball fell to Boaler on the edge of the box and he took an age to decide whether to shoot or pass. Thankfully he chose to pass and Lewis Williams did the rest. A fabulous effort into the top corner left the goalkeeper with no chance!
After falling further behind Chester rallied and got themselves back into the contest. A long range effort from their striker flew into the top corner. The striker grabbed a second shortly after with a long ball causing a problem in the defence.
That was as good as it got for the hosts with Whitegate dominating the latter stages. Ben Duffy saw the ball fall to him outside the area following a corner but his effort is still rising now!
With Martyn Boaler and Jonathan Bownes substituted, the captains armband went to Robbie Allen and the leadership role definitely went to his head. The centre back made multiple storming runs into midfielder building the attacks. He was quickly pulled back into position. Another excellent performance from Allen.
Their were no more goals with Whitegate ending the season with a deserved 3-2 victory. A great way to finish a difficult season for everyone.
Special mention from manager Gary Yeo goes to Martyn Boaler for a superb display in midfield and neophyte Matt Powell for slotting into defence on his debut.
